Inspired by the Poutama one of the most popular designs the stepped pattern symbolises striving towards learning and growth.

Te Pōtawhito and Te Aotawhito are the ancient darkness and light, this pou whenua was filmed during the day standing outside of the building that now houses the remenants of Te Aro Pā on display the soil and middens of tupuna and the lives that lived there. This pou whenua acknowledges our tupuna tawhito - ake ake tonu.

Filmed during the Tangaroa-a-roto cycle of the maramataka this is a productive day for fishing and planting food.
