// NIHO TANIWHA

The digital weaving pattern for Te Pōnui and Te Aonui is inspired by the traditional raranga weaving pattern called 'Niho Taniwha'

The video that has been digitally woven and inserted into the triangles was film taken during the very start of the project. My whanau and I walked through Waitangi Park to say a karakia with mother to acknowledge the Ātua,  our tupuna, the whenua and the awa present within Te Aro and feeding out to the moana.

The niho taniwha pattern acknowledges the Taniwha that once lived in Waitangi awa but left when he heard people were coming.

To continue the genetic imprint between the light boxes or pou whenua I have inlayed a piece of pattern work from the following light box Te Pōroa and Te Aoroa in this way they are linked as whanau.

\\\ MARAMATAKA | TANGĀROA-A-ROTO

This work was filmed during the maramataka moon phase of Tangāroa-a-roto a productive day for fishing and planting food.

A good day to get things done.
